Victor is quickly getting familiar with his new environment, and after a few cautious days, he is sliping back into his bubbly switched on personality.

The 3 of us are looking forward to catch u with you all soon (ACC picninc in particular!).

Hello all Just a quick hello from Chili where we are finishing our second full day. Victor has been pretty good during the flight from Cocha to Santiago: just fascinated by the plane, the mountains from above, the modern car, the hotel, the subway, the large sidewalks... Two days in, he feels more comfortable and allows himself a tantrum or two (c'mooon that would not be really fun without them!) Santiago is a pretty cool and neat city and Victor has been able to enjoy the many parks and the zoo. He is also clean to enter Australia as the final stamp has been added to his passport. We're catching LA801 tomorrow night to get in Sydney saturday morning 0730 Sydney time. Then it will be time to settle in the local ozzy routine with our lovely little bolivian import! Looking forwars to catch up with you all soon, and introduce you to Victor Tupak! Big kisses to all and bye for now!

Chillin' in Chile

Salut tout le monde c'est Victor ici!!! Juste un petit mot pour vous dire ou j'en suis de mes peregrinations internationales. Bon alors apres m'etre glisse dans ma nouvelle vie avec papa et maman (c'etait deja pas mal, ballades tous les jours, petits plats a la carte, parcs, bains et histoires quotidiens, jouets, service personnel 24/7, ...), il y a eu pas mal de changement recemment.... Figurez vous que lundi matin, on m'a reveille tres tot, pour se trimballer jusqu'a un endroit ou j'ai vu un enorme avion de tout pret!! (jusqu'a maintenant, les avions ils etaient tout petits et dans le ciel!!!). Et ce n'est pas tout! J'ai meme ete DANS l'vion et j'ai vu les montagnes d'en haut!!! Et j'ai meme recommence deux fois apres!!!! Apres, on est arrive quelque part ou les voitures qui sont sur la route ne bringballent pas et elles n'ont pas le klaxon connecte a l'accelerateur, et ou les routes ne sont pas toutes defoncees (ca change quand meme quelque chose!!!). Non seulement ca, mais apres ce voyage en avion puis voiture navette spaciale, on est arrive dans une graaaande maison avec des plafonds super hauts ou des messieurs avec des gants blancs vous ouvrent les portes et des dames vous amenent a manger. Vraiment je recommande. Je me suis super bien amuse a sauter sur les canapes du grand salon en bas. Ca ne s'arrete pas la. Le jour d'apres on a ete SOUS la terre pour prendre un train (j'ai finalement arreter de dire 'camion' ou 'gato' quand je vois un train maintenant, je dit 'tren')! En revenant, on a ete voir tous les animaux de mes livres pour de vrai (et des autres aussi que je ne connaissait pas). Je reconnait maintenant sans erreur les singes et les perroquets, il faut que je travaille encore un peu ma giraffe, mon lion et mon tigre, donc on y retourne demain. On me dit que demain soir apres le zoo (c'est le livre d'animaux en vrai), on retourne dans un avion AVEC UNE TELE!!! Je prefererai un parc avec des tobogans, la tele ca ne me fait rien. J'ai un peu peur parceque apres, il parait qu'on va dans une maison ou il y a un chien qui s'appelle Diego. Je suis terrorise par les chiens (ce cretin de cabot a la maison de Martha m'a mordu au bout du 2eme jour), alors Poupa, on verra quand et comment je lui serrerait la patte! Mais il parait qu'il y aussi plein de perroquets et aussi la 'mer' (il parait que c'est comme plein de bains et que l'eau bouge, et pis quoi encore, pourquoi pas un bac a sable geant ou on pourrait faire des milliers de chateau en sable aussi, vraiment mon papa il veut me faire croire n'importe quoi). Bon enfin bref, le Chili, c'est bien cool - ca fait du bien de se retrouver dans un endroit ou les autos n'essaient pas de me renverser a tous les coins de rue et ou on peut boire l'eau du robinet. Arrivee a Sydney samedi 23 matin 7h30 avec LA 801. Gros bisoux a tous avec plein de photos!!! Victor

Goodbye Cochabamba!

Very quick one....leaving Cocha 7.15am Monday morning, arriving in Santiago de Chile approx 3pm. Will be there till Thurs ... arrive back in Syd Sat morning 23May 7.30am. Leaving with mixed feelings; last time in town today .... & saw Evo Morales deliver a moving speech at Plaza 14 de Septiembre! Marc has some footage. Bon alors apres un course de lenteur administrative entre les administrations boliviennes et australiennes (remportee quand meme par les boliviens mais les australiens se sont quand meme bien defendus - si si il faut 3 jours pour envoyer un fax, ah mais oui monsieur mais c'est quand meme pas ma faute), il sembleRAIT que l'hombre dúne eventuelle possibilite que nous puissions eventuellement considerer peut-etre un possible depart probable dans quelques jours.... Hi all, thanks so very much for your messages! :) We´re still here in Cochabamba - just waiting on ok from DFAT in Aust. then phone call from embassy in Chile, before we can depart. Embassy expect to receive ok by Tues/Weds. Here´s hoping! Soon as we get the ok, we´ll head off to Chile to pick up little V´s Aust. visa! Prob. stay a night or two, then make our way back home :) Wish us much luck - flights home looking a little busy (another trick by Pachamama!?) Killing time shopping, visiting the huge Christo, taking V to park, eating, drinking beer, drinking wine, taking photos, watching bad Sth American tv, playing chess etc etc Can´t wait to get home & give you all big hugs! :) Will post again as soon as we get ok from Chile! Un message encore plus court et rapide: hier nous avons obtenu le passport de Vupaktor, ca a ete un peu long car aparemmetn c'etait inca particulier (oufoufouf). Nous considerons maintenant serieusemant un retour la semaine prochaine. Nous prevoyons un voyage de Noel, resevez vos dates des maintenant!! (Viktupor a inca lendrier tres charge hahaha) Merci de vos message a tous (et en particulier de toi belle Isabelle, enormes bisoux) et a bientot! ================= We just got a passport for Victor yesterday and are serisously considering a trip back home next week! Hi all, very quick one. We´re applying for Victor´s passport this afternoon & have been told it could very well be ready by tomorrow evening! Fingers crossed. We still have to settle V´s Aust. visa requirements, certified translated docs etc but all have said we should be on our way to Santiago by Tues next week. If all goes as planned, we´ll stay in Santiago till next Fri, then fly back home to Sydney over the weekend of 15-17May. So, another possibly 2wks in total before we´re home! Here´s hoping! We´re a lot more homesick this week - heard a techno-cumbia version of ¨Land Down Under¨ the other day & both teary-eyed. A few quick personal msgs: 1.Anna! Great to hear from you! Will definitely phone when we´re back. Will give all at Salomon Klein your love & best wishes...& have sent an air-kiss to Cocha for you! 2.Kitty! Yes please - would love to have someone collect us from airport. Will keep you posted on date/time. 3. Pip! I pushed for Kevin :) 4. Lucy, hope we´re back before you leave! 5. Diego! Grrr....woof! Hola tout le monde, c'est le papa de Victor ici Merci pour tous vos gentils mots! Victor continue de bien se porter, et il s'habitue a nous de mieux en mieux. Nous attendons les passeports et visas patiemment, ca va nous prendre sans doute une grande quinzaine de jours (il a fallu 1 semaine, 3 visites au bureau de l'immigration, 432 tampons et 49 timbres pour renouveler nos deux visas, un vrai reve kafkaien!) En attendant nous avons visiter la campagne Cochabambinenne dimanche avec Norma et son mari (queele beaute e tquelle pauvrete!), et aussi nous faisons des visites regulieres au grand marche local (quel splendide bordel! faites vos commandes, qui n'a pas de chuyo?) Enfin bref, nous attendons de revenir bientot et nous vous faisons tous de gros bisoux en attendant. Plus de photos bientot. Les 3 boliperaustralancais

J'ai une maman et un papa officiels

Salut c'est Victor (Tupak donc, je reviendrai la dessus) Ca yest on a ete voir cette juge charmante (NOT) pour la troisieme fois et elle a dit, apres maintes ceremonies et declarations solennelles que la maman et le papa que jái choisis ne sont pas trop mal... ils feront l'affaire diront nous! Donc cést tres bien. Maintenant nous abordons les passeports, visas et renouvellement de visas, etc... alors devinez quoi! Ils n'arrettent pas de me faire des piqures depuis 3 jours! Et une hep B par ci, et une prise de sang le matin (sans manger meme!!!) par la... Je vous le dis, ils ont de la chance que je soit un descandant de l'Inca et je sais garder mes nerfs... A ce propos, en effet, ils ont choisis Tupak... Pas mal, sauf que il y a un idiot de raper americain qui a choisi le meme nom (en fait cést encore plus cool!). En fait c'est le seul prenom que ma maman et mon papa aimait tous les deux. Il y avait aussi (en premier les preferes de ma maman): Amaru (Dieux de la sagesse), Rimaq (celui qui parle) et Rupay. Et les preferes de mon papa Pachakutiq (celui qui change le monde, la je l'ai echappe belle tu parles d'un nom, pis aussi d'un boulot!), Huasca (un autre super Inca) et Waman (l'aigle ou le faucon). Bon Tupak ca ira, ce sera la frangine qui se tapera un des utres noms! Sinon je parle de plus en plus: maintenant je dis 'Pan' (le pain) dans la rue, j'ai dit 'pelota' tout fort plain de fois au parc (et le ciel ne m'est meme pas tombe sur la tete!), 'avion' (il parait que je vai aller dans un truc comme ca!!!), et puis aussi je murmure 'tortuga' et 'loro'. Bon aller ma sieste va se finir alors jájoute quelques photos (pendnt le repas je ne suis pas toujours si mignon) et j'y vai. Gros bisous a tous et a bientot!!! Tupak le Majestueux.

Hi all, thanks for your messages! We´ve moved accomodation & have to say much happier. It´s very nice to have a garden & be able to drink tea or wine in the sun :) Victor has adapted to move nicely, although very afraid of the turtle, bird & dog (especially, the dog). He still refuses to accept a ´No´ from either of us, but as mentioned previously, he´s slowly learning how patient & ´deaf´ his parents are becoming, regardless of the pitch! :) We´re still encountering a few dramas re: Victor´s vaccines/visa - Dr insisted on another shot of HepB, although his papers already state he´s had this vaccine. We spent 2.5hrs this morning, running from hospital to chemist then onto to Vaccination Clinic to have said vaccine administered. Firstly, hospital ran out of vaccine, then 2 chemists didn´t stock it, then after finding it at 3rd chemist 15mins away, returned back to hospital to find they would not administer it because it didn´t come from their stock etc etc etc Ahhhh.....Bolivia! Marc & I wonder how anything ever gets accomplished. Thankfully, the Vacc. Clinic agreed to administer. We´re hoping this will be the end of our ´vaccine´fiasco & the Dr will now agree to complete Victor´s medical report for his Aust. visa. Fingers crossed! On a happier note, we are coming to the end of our 15day pre-adoptive parents phase & we have our 3rd audience with the Judge this coming Friday! By the weekend, we will officially be Victor´s adoptive parents :) We have not had any news about additional visits from the orphanage social workers/psychologist - yay! I would guess next week we´ll start applying for Birth Certificates, Bolivian ID & passport - hopefully, this will not take any longer than 3 weeks. We´re both very homesick & dreaming about sun, surf, sand, good coffee, vegemite, clean air, Diego, Avalon, good cheese & wine etc etc. We´re hoping to head over to Cocha´s famous ´La Cancha´ markets tomorrow morning to begin buying souvenirs etc. Till next blog, miss you all & thanks again for your supportive messages, Yas, Marc & Victor xxxxxxx ps we decided on an Inca name, in the end. Hi all...a quick one this arvo. We´ll be changing accomodation tomorrow morning; moving to Martha & Mario´s bottom flat. Both looking forward to this as they have a little garden, a dog, a bird & a turtle. Will be a welcome change from the apartment & having to head out every morning or afternoon. Looking forward to playing with Victor in the garden & it´ll be nice for us to have some adult company also. As yet, we´re not sure if we´ll have a phone but you can still reach us on the cell, if you want (think I posted the no. on an earlier blog). Little man is doing well - learning very quickly to listen to his parents, particularly when they say No. (eg No, you cannot run onto the road to chase the pigeons OR No, you must eat your vegies before having a treat OR No, throwing a tantrum will not get you want you want even if you are screaming at the top of your lungs in a park, restaurant, in front of social workers etc). He´s a very smart boy, our son :) He´s beginning to sing a little & counts to 3, & happily mutters away to himself. We´re hoping moving to Martha´s will encourage him to come out of his shell a little more :) All of us are well & happy. We´re nearly half-way now; both Marc & I looking forward to the end of the week when we´ll become Victor´s legitimate adoptive parents :) Then possibly another 3 weeks before we return home. Hmmmm.....interesting couple of days. We´re not real happy with the way bureaucratic things are going thus far. 1.Victor´s medical history is not complete - we have no knowledge of his vaccinations. We were advised if they need to be administered again, we´ll have to stay another 2 months! Currently, the doctor is ringing around laboratories to find out if any of them can take blood samples to confirm vaccinations. Looks like this will delay our visa application. Both of us are amazed this wasn´t checked BEFORE we left Aust. For all our friends waiting, please make sure you ask for confirmation of vaccinations before leaving. 2. Social worker/psychologist request 2nd visit - apparently, I didn´t appear to play enough with Victor (ahh...that could be because I was busy talking to them & translating all to Marc!). Am really angry about this especially as I asked them before they left, how they perceived our parenting skills to which they replied, ¨You´re doing great, nothing to worry about. He looks very happy¨. Will bite my tongue, smile at them through gritted teeth & play their game. Wish us luck! 3. Fees have increased substantially - we were not forewarned about any increases from either side & are still waiting to receive a detailed account of costs. Of course, we expected some difficulties whilst here but it hasn´t made anything easier. We´ll both be glad when all of this is over so we can return home & get our son settled. ps Yesterday was bliss. Salut, Victor ici encore! Je viens de lire cerains commentaires et je voudrait repondre a certaines questions (le retard a repondre cést la fute de mon papa qui avait peur de parler espagnol a línternet cafe, quel idiot celui la, moi je parle deja 3 langues... enfin) La toux c'est presque fini, je finis juste les antibiotiques pour eviter une pneumonie. Maintenant on sáttaque a mon Gardia qui a trainer avec moi un peu longtemps. Dans la rue je cris tres souvent ´auto!´ et ´bus!´ et ´camion!´ parceue jáime beaucoup ces mots, meme si parfois je me trompe un peu d´ordre. Aussi, parfois je lisse plus discretement un ´perro´ (c´est un chien pour les non inities) et un gato `gato` (un chat) mais ces mots la je les murmure, parceque je ne suis pas trop sur (et qui sait ce qui pourrait arriver si je les dis trop fort!). Sinon je joue tout plein aux cubes, aux petites autos, et je fais des dessins. Jái encore un peu peur des autres enfants, mais je finirai par m´habituer! Allez jái plein dáutographes a signer, alors je vai y aller. Je fais pleins de grosses bises a tout le monde, mais a Mouma et Poupa en particulier parce que je les aime deja tres tres fort (mon papa me dis plein de choses gentilles sur eux). A plus! PS: Pas de chocolat a Paques, mais un super bon repas chez Martha (le carrelage a aussi bien aimer parceque les cuilleres c'est pas facile!)

Hi all Victor here! My mum and dad are impatiently awaiting the 3rd hearing at the tribunal. Should work all smoothly with the kind help of Pachamama. Now they have something to decide (they discuss this after Im in bed - they think I sleep but I hear everything): choose me a middle name (as in Victor SomeFunkyButNotTooWeirdName Depret). Pretty scary if you ask me, specially if you knew my dad. So while they´re not watching, Im posting what they have come up with so far, and please, please do lobby them to prevent them from doing something stupid! Ill have to wear this for the rest of my life! Je viens dápprendre le francais alors voici mon premier message sur mon site. Mon Papa et ma Maman s´habituent doucement a moi, et je hurle de moins en moins longtemps au moment de me coucher. Mon Papa est rigolo et ma maman est tres tendre et je les aime beaucoup! Sinon, nous allons jouer tous les jours au parc ou il ya plein de jeux supers´(et super dangereux, ils sont vraiment fous ces Boliviens) Hier, les assitantes sociales sont venues a la maison et elles ont dit que jállais bien mieux, et aussi que mon Papa et ma Maman devaient me laisser pleurer quant je fais un caprice (moi, jáime pas ces assistantes sociales!) Ce soir je vai chez le docteur pour mon visa, on va bien rire! Allez, je vai faire la sieste. Alors, gros bisoux a tous et a bientot, xxVictorxx

Tantrums (need I say more...!)

Hi everyone Thanks so very much for your lovely messages. We´ve had a couple of difficult days hence the delay in posting another blog. Today, Victor has been with us for 1week. As expected, we´ve had regular tantrums (morning, noon & night)...little guy is certainly testing how far he can push us. As a good friend said ¨It´s your job to set the boundaries & his to challenge them". He´s certainly doing that! Things are improving though very slowly - same frequency but not as long. We´re keeping ourselves sane by occasionally downing a Pacena or a very bad glass of Chilean wine :) We had our meeting with a social worker & psychologist yesterday (Victor threw a tantrum whilst they were there. Haha!) They told us he´s responding to us well & is a lot more active than he was in the orphanage. A good sign. They also think he may be a little hyperactive, but we´re thinking this may because everything is so new to him. This evening, we´re off for his full medical check so we can complete an application for his Bolivian ID. Marc & I are fine...each night, we celebrate having ´survived´another tantrum-y day :) Miss you all very much, Yas & Marc xxxx

Here is the little man :) We´re currently at the home of our ´landlord´, Mario & Marta, enjoying lunch with them & an italian couple who have adopted a 5yr old girl, Jimena (very cute), hence this quick blog. Tomorrow, we´re off to La Cancha to buy some souvenirs!! Yay! Victor is adjusting as expected ... glued to either of our waists, mini temper-tantrums or silent treatment, eating well & full of energy. Day 2 - more battles! :)

Hi all Just a quick one today ... Victor settling in as expected (very textbook!) Challenging us more & more..battles with food, sleep, globos (balloons), ¨mexican stand-off¨& temper tantrums. It´s been very challenging for both of us, but it´s to be expected. Little one just testing us out :) Have just tried to post a photo but having probs so will try again tomorrow. If anyone needs to reach us urgently, you can contact us at home on 591 4 452 4748 or on our borrowed cell 591 70370606 (our mobiles don´t work here). Tomorrow begins Semana Santa so not sure we´ll be able to get online...but Sat everything will be open again so expect an update. Hi everyone! Sorry we haven´t written - we haven´t stopped since we arrived in Cocha late Weds arvo. Thurs am we had our 1st meeting in court, then straight off to meet our little Victor. He´s just adorable! Big brown eyes & very long eyelashes (we will post some pics soon - I forgot to bring the camera with me. Doh!). He´s a very affectionate little boy, very small for his age - but that´s to be expected. He´s very bright & alert & already calls us Mama y Papa :) There´s so much he´s never seen or heard before so he tends to jump from 1 thing to another :) Also, very normal. We spent the first 6 days travelling back & forth from our apartment in the centre of Cocha to the orphanage - from 9.30-12.30, return to the apartment for lunch, then back again to the orphanage from 2.30-6.30 then home around 7pm. It´s been extremely tiring running back & forth - we´ve both been desperate to update this blog but as you can see, we´ve not really had the time until now. Today, is the first day of our 15days living with Victor. He´s now having his midday siesta - Marc is at the apartment watching over him. We´re already having sleep & food battles :) It´s a good sign! He was pretty good last night - woke up twice very scared & screamed, but then fell straight back to sleep again the minute we picked him up. He loves playing with Marc - drawing, making paper aeroplanes, building blocks. With me, he loves being fed by me or having me hold him while we walk around or watching me cook. He´s a very, very sweet little boy. I can´t wait to get him home & settled into our daily Aust routine - without being monitored all the time (it´s become a little frustrating). Greg - we understand you now! :) So, we´re in an apartment on Calle 16 de Julio...not very far from the main part of town. Cocha is very lively, reminds me of Lima....everything is so old & antiquated, including the way things operate. The roads are not tarred or paved evenly so you really have to watch your step & the taxi rides are very very bumpy. Although, it´s very green & surrounded by the most beautiful mountains, the air around the city is dusty & dry & polluted. I´ve got a chronic hayfever allergy & Marc a throat infection. Thankfully, we haven´t had too much trouble in the belly department - we´ve been very very careful with what we eat. Our son (!) on the other hand, has a bout of gastro & is suffering from bronchitis. We´re taking him to see the doctor this afternoon. Amazingly, we´ve had very good luck with the whole procedure here - everything has happened quickly & on time. After the 15days with Victor living with us, we´ll have our final audience with the Judge (who is quite fierce but did smile at Marc & I), then it´s just a matter of waiting for his passport, Bolivian ID & birth certificate - which could take another couple of weeks. As soon as we have this, we´ll head back to Santiago de Chile...then fly back home to Syd. Yay! I guess that´s enough for now (making up for lost time - he hee hee). After a long flight, they have arrived in Santiago for a night rest. I hope they have a good sleep or they will look funny in court tomorrow!!! As for me I am still waiting patiently in the orphanage (but I started to get my things together to get prepared...) We expect to arrive in Cochabamba tomorrow - accomodation to be advised.
